Life on a Train

Spent half of the day on a train riding across Germany today. What was striking is that the different landscapes, buildings and so on along the track triggered thoughts and brought memories to my mind. Maybe because I was heading west to the parts of Germany I’m actually from.

Life is said to flash before your eyes when you’re going to die, right? So what was that about? Is this stream of consciousness you get into on a train in any way comparable to the last seconds of your life? Apart from the fact that the latter are likely to be more intense and, yes, obviously shorter than a ride across Germany.

I came to think about a lot of things I might have missed out on. A closer relation to my parents and siblings for instance. Although it’s always nice to see them, it sometimes feels as if we don’t really have that much to talk about…
